History of the Zimmerman Parish
Our parish is a single parish congregation under the Nairobi North Presbytery. It draws its membership from Zimmerman estate and adjacent areas. The origin of the parish can be traced back to Mathare Parish which formed the Kahawa outreach in late 1980s to provide pastrol services to Presbyterian members living along Thika road and Kamiti road. Kahawa outreach was upgraded into Kahawa Parish and later sub-divided into 3 parishes i.e Kahawa Farmers, Kahawa West and Githurai parishes. in March 27th 2010 Githurai Parish was also sub-divided into 5 single congregation parishes ie Zimmerman,New Githurai, Gateway and Thome Parishes.PCEA Zimmerman Kirk Session is made up of the above 34 Elders and the Moderator. Their mandate is concerned with the rule and pastoral oversight of the Zimmerman parish. The corrective functions of the session is to: Functions of Kirk Session
- Maintain the PCEA church constitutions as provided in the practice and procedure manual (PnP)
- Build up Spiritual life in the parish and promote the witness of Jesus Christ in Zimmerman area and the rest of the world.
- Regulation of public worship, care for church and congregational societies.
- Appointment of lay workers and parish evangelist among others
